I Woke Up Like This... No Really
- For Ladies, Lifestyle
… And I look a hot sleep deprived mess. I don’t wear makeup, except on shoots or events, but an old friend once said “you are who you are when you’re not all MADE UP.” We are after all, just humans.
Kim Addonizio has a line about vulnerability in the beginning of What Is This Thing Called Love, where she compares the first kiss to that of her baby, drunk off her breast milk. The image above. Ah, but impossible.
My definition of beauty is not only this list, but here:
1. Your personality when you’re surrounded by strangers. Whatever that is, to witness it, to be present, to be there, is always beautiful.
2. Beauty is vulnerability, a way to be open with yourself: accept and admit defeats. I think we all have a hard time with this one.
3. Beauty is going through the things that shape you and help you become who you are, beauty is learning from your failures.
4. Real beauty is who you are when you’ve been reduced to what you consider the worst version of yourself. Beauty is what you do with that.
Vulnerable and easy, yet impossible.
