Editorial: 22nd Annual African American Film Marketplace S.E. Manly Short Film Showcase
- For Fellas, For Ladies, Lifestyle
Last Friday I attended the African American Film Marketplace S.E. Manly Short Film Showcase and it was... exquisite to say the least. It was held at the Harmony Gold Theatre.
Larry Chatman was the supporter and Sandra Evers-Manly was the facilitator and President.
The red carpet was ripe with perfection from front liners to new writers. Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center's leadership team made lifetime honorees possible and paid tribute to such names as LaRita Shelby, Larry Chatman, Ron Brewington, Julie Dash, and Billy Woodberry. The students at Washington Prep Academy were in attendance for recognition of the films they'd created in Darryl McCane's class. He is a true hero. Their stories jumped out and their voices were heard!
The festival lasted several days and was made possible by the continued emergence of our former scholarship recipient and talented filmmaker Ryan Coogler, Director of "Creed," and the BHERC, and many other supporters.
I was so happy to be amongst these greats and I truly thank them for believing in the future. Without that, what do we have?
